- Grew up in Ohio in a paper-mill town that always smelled bad
- Has approximately 50 first cousins (give or take a few)
- Originally studied biology at Ohio University
- Lived in Phoenix for many years and got to where 100 degrees in the shade was quite enjoyable
- Served as designer and art director for several magazines and is still very passionate about magazine design
- Has a slight hoarding tendency when it comes to printed items - books, magazines, stamps, catalogs, brochures, clothing tags, recipe cards, record covers, postcards, calendars, etc.
- Lived and worked in New York City where an appreciation for good cheesecake was discovered
- Moved to Detroit with boyfriend who thought empty buildings were beautiful
- Adopted a dog named Tommy who is affectionately nicknamed "Stinky"
- Takes more pictures of old signs and fading murals than landscapes when on vacation
- Is currently cultivating a small cucumber farm in front yard with husband
- Likes experimenting with materials for illustrations including shoelaces, leaves, sticks, string, ribbon, snow (melts fast), glitter (messy)
- Is a master soup maker
- Doesn't own or like to wear plain socks
- Recently won "Judges Pick" along with a friend in a sidewalk chalk event for creating a giant, family-friendly board game
- Thinks the penalty box in NHL hockey should be filled with bees
